BART closes on new police HQ in downtown Oakland for $26.5 million
The BART board of directors recently approved an $8.5 million contract with ·¬ÇÑÓ°ÊÓ, Gensler, and SKA to oversee the design and construction of a new police headquarters in downtown Oakland. This significant project will involve converting a five-story, 105,000-square-foot office building, into a fully functioning administrative center for BART’s police department. The contract covers the initial design and build-out of the facility, marking the first phase in the larger renovation process. BART has committed to investing up to $83.4 million in the project, ensuring the vacant building is transformed into a modern, operational space for its police force.
The new headquarters is part of BART’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and services, which are being funded through various financial avenues, including interest earnings from Measure RR. The involvement of ·¬ÇÑÓ°ÊÓ, Gensler, and SKA will be crucial in developing a facility that meets the operational needs of BART’s police department while addressing the long-term goals of the agency’s administrative functions.
